We offer the Do-It-Yourselfer a low cost, high quality method for spray  painting kitchen cabinets using the original 'lacquer finish' tinted to the colour of your choice.

Not all Kitchen Cabinet Door Sprayers are equal, many companies are still using paint and a clear coat for cabinet doors, for many reasons you can find here this is not a good idea: http://www.truenorthservices.ca/lacquer-vs-paint

The in home portion completed by the DIY'r takes between 4-6 hours for an average kitchen when following our instructions (using a 4" roller  kit & brush we can supply), the priming & lacquering can be completed over a 24 hr period (fast lacquer drying times in between coats of 15 & 20 minutes). The easy to clean up waterborne lacquer is Low VOC & smells similar to floor wax or Ammonia based Windex. This process can be completed leisurely by yourself while we re-spray your doors in our shop. We offer a fast turn around time from acceptance of our quote of between 10-14 days including pick up & delivery!
Priming with Zinnser Primer/Sealer (shellac Based) Drying time is over night. Complete the lacquering the next day!

We use durable, chip & moisture resistant non yellowing lacquer along with a sealer that blocks the natural wood colours from bleeding through over time.
Sealer/blockers are very important when respraying certain woods like Pine & Oak although any wood species can bleed their natural colour and this can distort off white colours.

Questions?

What about the trim, islands and my sides?

True North does not offer any in home services however the water based product can be applied by a qualified painter using a combination of brushes and small rollers.

How easy is it to apply?

With proper surface preperations and some patience you can achieve excellent results. The key is too applying very thin coats on each application when rolling.

Do you remove the doors and re attach them?

No, we have you take down all the doors and remove the hinges and any hardware attached, we then offer pickup & delivery  in our pricing. Some customers hire a local Handy Man or painter to do the in home work.

Does my old  Colour bleed through like some paints do?

Whenever we see that the current stain is a dye stain that is used without a proper clear coat over top then we always use a stain blocking sealer just to be safe, otherwise your risk is very limited.

What do you mean very limited?

It can be difficult to determine exactly what type of stain was used and how it was applied,  it is always possible near some end grain that not enough clear lacquer was applied over the stain and it could bleed through. Dye Stains are the type of stain that appear to be in the finish and not a penetrating stain that would be absorbed into the wood. If we have any doubts or when working with off white colours over reds, we will take the time to apply a stain blocker sealer to be safe.

Do you supply any lacquer for in home use by my painter?

Yes, we can purchase extra tinted product for you at your cost, pricing varies based on the amount of tint  needed. It varies between $55 and $75 gallon plus tax. We would forward the product info to you by email, linking you to the manufactures recommended application procedures, we can also help with a few important tips to make the job go better and easier.
